HOW TO EXPORT A FILM FROM FINAL CUT PRO TO DVD AND THEN TO YOUTUBE
Its actually quite simple once you have finished editing your film its time to export it into a QuickTime movie, if you haven’t selected ‘easy set up’ on the final cut pro bar
Then you will need to do this it’s always best to do this at the start.
Now to export your video you do this by going on to file then on to export and you will see to option to export into QuickTime movie.
Once you’ve done this it will ask you to save it in an appropriate place so that it’s easy to find and has enough room on the hard drive.
Now its time to upload your video on to the World Wide Web in this case YouTube. You need an account to do this if you haven’t got on its extremely easy to register, if you have you simply have to click on the ‘Upload’ hyperlink which will take you to the page you need.
Just click the yellow upload icon and it will go into your finder (if your uploading via a apple Mac) now you have to look up your newly converted QuickTime video and double click which will select this video to upload. After this it will give you all the options to name and tag your newly uploaded video this is all labeled on the page and is as easy as pie.
DVD Menu Review
I have chosen the Mighty Boosh series 2 DVD menu as other than being a great series it has a great DVD menu to add to it’s wonderful creation.
You have the classic play all, episodes, extras and what not but the magic is in how you see the shop in where the episodes are set and you see the magic train of stationary village going around the set on a repeat trail. I like this as also every highlighted link you click on weather its extras or play all it goes to a separate new scene in where you can choose what you want to see. This is a really good idea, which I would love to use in the future.
It’s a new age way of DVD menu’s as some of the older DVD menu’s just feature a picture from the film and a basic menu with options and play film and if you were lucky scene selection, but it has advanced through the years as in most DVD’s these days the menu gives you the option for ‘special effects’ ‘extras’ and ‘deleted footage’ which would have been anonymous in the early days of DVD.
Most of these DVD menu presentations id left keep repeating which can be extremely annoying if your trying to find the controller to turn it off or get it started, The Rise Of The Foot Solider is a classic example as it seems to have a 30 second montage of clips before it repeats and this can be extremely annoying after the four minutes or so. Most comedies these days for example ‘step brothers’ and ‘scary movie 3’ include others like ‘gag reels’ and ‘alternative endings’ this includes all the ‘unscripted’ bloopers and jokes which weren’t included in the film, personally I think they are most defiantly scripted and most used to fill up the DVD, none the less they are still a good laugh to watch after you have watched the film and feel like you need to watch them all to get the full potential of purchasing the DVD.
Here’s a general list of what every 21st Century DVD will include:
·Extras – If it doesn’t you should take it back seriously this will be in every DVD that’s come out in the last eight years. Unless it’s a b rated movie, which has only just got the material the fit, a feature length film.
·Subtitles – if your English German French or from the other side of the world there will be subtitles sometimes if your luck y even an option to change it to the language you speak.
·Scene Selection - this is a no brainer people want to search through films to find there favorite scene or if they couldn’t finish the film to find out where they left off apart from ‘play’ properly the most important part of the DVD menu.
·FACT - Federation Against Copyright Theft, without doubt this will try to scare you to death about downloading pirate DVD’s.

Documentary comparison with news article
There are a lot of differences between documentaries and news article the main one is that you can edit at a much larger scale within a documentary, as it is a production and you can add music cuts and everything you would use within a moving image project. A news article is normally live and is straight to the point with no cuts or edits and also there is only one side to the argument, as it is a reporter reviewing the story and saying the facts of the matter. A documentary can also include fiction with ease, as in a news report it would be unwise and frowned upon.
I will compare my own video documentary, which is about what people keep inside of their handbags. I will use this example as I created it and know exactly what I did to film and edit the footage.
In this documentary we recorded raw footage of interviewing people as I used a z5 to film the face and reaction as a normal interview my colleague Oliver lee used a Nikon D5000 to catch the hand movements and the items within the bag.I then edit both of the footage together to create the documentary, with live news shoot you don’t have this option and you have to stick with the one shot or sometimes can use multi live camera but that is rare. This is a news article I have chosen for my comparison with my own documentary.
This shows a selection of simple camera shots a live interview and keeps the watcher focused on what’s happening there is some edits showing different clips whilst you can still hear the audio within the background. Also the difference with a documentary and a news report is that is normally based on one specific subject and report. For example if it’s a pre done report then they can do in camera edits by showing different shots through out the interview or report so that the viewer does not lose interest.
I was asked by Darren on behalf of MAPA to edit the Christmas lights video including live performance's and interviews with the artists. i have included my own music and other effects on certain clips to keep the audience entertained. This will be used in a screening to all the MAPA team and students. It took a far amount of time as the raw footage i was given was around twenty two minutes long and i had to condense this to under ten minutes, this made me come in on days off which i enjoyed as i put my own style to it, also felt like a professional task.
They wanted a YouTube type video for a showing to all the students and everyone who was involved in the Christmas lights performances which was a lot of people so i had to screen shot pictures of the footage and send to the music department to find out the names of the students and team involved. Also they wanted a mix between live performances and interviews to mix it up and make sure everyone was featured. It took a little longer than expected to complete as max the head of MAPA kept throwing ideas around for me to include which was a good thing as this kept me on my toes and made sure i had the film up to his expectations.
I have got good feed back from the video, this was a great feeling as i had put in some of my own comedy effects which would either float or sink.
We have just created a 5 episode series based on a plane, going from comedy to musical. i have learned that time is key and organization is the most important thing to insure a good production as you need to know what everyone is doing and how and when there doing it! i was involved in editing, acting and writing, i learned that its hard work and you need control over your whole team, this is vital to get a good vibe within the production and to make sure you get all the right shots. this is the first episode were i was the editor, i felt i did a pretty good job would have loved to have spent more time on the edit as i was against the clock also felt there were better shots which we could have made the clip more intense. I also created the music using logic pro.
Episode 1 Consequences
i have learned from this episode especially that with the right actors and time we have the ability as a group to create a tense atmosphere and make a near professional production.
Episode 2 Plane Strangers
In this episode i helped with cameras and also acted, this one was well organized as the people acting learn't there words before we started filming also we had all the props (nuts, bottle of water) bought and ready for when we started filming.
Episode 3 Crew
In this episode i was the The actor Joe and helped out apart from that i wasn't included in the production.
Episode 4: Empty
again in this one i helped out with the acting and the some of the camera work.
Episode 5: 5
In this one i was the co writer with Duncan we didn't have much time to write so we tried to keep it simple as we could and just include classic puns through out with a strict sense of comedy. i have learn't you need time to write a decent script and make sure have the right actors to do the job.
